Save Our Hospital

Read the Save Our Hospital pageThe Save Our Hospital campaign is a long running saga that pre-dates the formation of Putting Hartlepool First by eight years. Our first campaign article is a brief summary of the origins of our Hospital's woes. The campaign page will continue to catalogue the failings of those that represent us - both elected and unelected - and highlight the opportunities missed to vigourously defend our hospital in accordance with the wishes of the vast majority of Hartlepool's residents.

Councillors Allowances

Read the Councillors Allowances pageMillions need to be saved. Council services are threatened. In times of austerity sacrifices must be made. We are all in this together after all, aren't we?

Well no, not all of us. Hartlepool's councillors want £66,000 to make sure there is enough cash in next year's budget for their pay rise. No signs of austerity here, no signs of being in it together. It's a shame they didn't put as much effort into defending our hospital as they have put into securing their pay rise.

Council Tax

Read the Council Tax pageIt's a long running scandal that council tax payers in Hartlepool are obliged to cough up one of the highest rates of council tax in the country. Our current league table position is fourth. Yes that's right, Hartlepudlians pay the fourth most expensive rate of council tax in the whole country.

One the core aims of Putting Hartlepool First is to gradually reduce the rate of council tax, by continuing the council tax rate freeze, until the rates are as close as possible to the average.
